Ancient Greek literature often reflected rigid gender norms, yet within the confines of myth and tragedy, playwrights like Sophocles and Aeschylus reimagined the roles of women, offering a more nuanced exploration of power, identity, and heroism. Beyond the Binary: The Evolution of Gender in Greek Tragedy examines how female characters in plays such as Antigone and Eumenides embody both masculine and feminine traits, challenging traditional binaries. Through in-depth literary analysis, this work uncovers how Greek tragedies both reinforced and subverted societal expectations, revealing early notions of gender fluidity and resistance.
